Moman trial postponed
Arthur Moman, charged in the stabbing death of Ricky Francis, will remain in the Adams County Detention Center on $500,000 bond, until a new date is set for his trial. The trial, originally scheduled to begin on Dec. 7, was postponed after Moman filed a motion with the Adams County Court of Common Pleas to remove his attorney citing "ineffective assistance of counsel."

New Franklin, Springfield issues pass
NEW FRANKLIN/SPRINGFIELD - Voters living in New Franklin, Springfield and the Manchester and Springfield local school districts saw familiar issues on the Aug. 2 Special Election ballot. Three of the four local issues on the ballot were defeated by voters in a previous election, with the fourth issue being a modified version of a defeated issue.

The village of Manchester and Wayne Township have joined hundreds of Ohio villages, townships and counties in providing its citizens easy access to local government finances by launching their online checkbooks with OhioCheckbook.com. The website, created by Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, has set a new national standard for government transparency by putting all state and local spending information on the internet.
Manchester bond issue result due Aug. 19
Votes for the Manchester Local Schools bond issue and levy will be certified today, Aug. 19, according to Summit County Board of Elections officials. At the Aug. 16 Manchester Board of Education meeting, Superintendent James Robinson said 21 outstanding votes will be certified today.

Blanton rape, kidnapping trial continues at courthouse
A nine woman, three man jury with four alternates was seated on Monday, Aug. 21 in the rape and kidnapping trial of an Adams County teen with Judge Brett Spencer presiding. Denny W. Blanton,Jr. 18, of Manchester is accused of allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl from the Peebles area on Feb. 22, 2016.

MLSD board members disagree on the merits of drug-testing students
Should public school students be drug tested? It's a controversial subject and even though statistics do not yet back up the effectiveness of such programs, many high schools across the country are turning to this approach to fight the growing drug problem. During the 2016-17 school year Manchester Local School District will become the first Adams County school to implement drug testing for students involved in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
